BlackBerry Storm on Vodafone UK

Posted on July 13th, 2009 by Alex

I have now had the Storm since it came out last year, on the day it came out. Only recently has it started to play up, in the form of it won’t charge! Trying different chargers, and the usb cable on different machines it only seems to charge at work and only weirdly through the DELL 24inch screen USB. So at first I assumed it was the battery and being onĀ  a Vodafone business contract I contacted customer services, who happily said they would send a replacement battery out. This was on Wednesday two weeks ago, just as I returned from Jamaica. They said it would be sent out the next day, however having to be without a phone for 4 days is simply not good enough, so I decided to contact Vodafone again on Monday last week (6th July) and they said they were out of stock. Now had they told me this I would of gladly asked for an exchange on the phone.

So as I spoke to them on Monday I asked for a replacement handset as I couldn’t bear being without my beloved Storm for another day. Next day phone arrived, and swapped it over with driver. Connected phone to Mac and imported all the data back onto it, then put it onto the DELL screen and voila it started to charge. Got home charged on storm charger (a new storm charger, I hasten to add) and nothing just a glorious red light.

So it resulted in coming into work next day and charging on this sacred DELL screen. So had the phone fully charged for weekend, and used it a lot. On Saturday not only a cheque from a current client arrived and a jiffy bag with a replacement battery, stuck into storm and plugged in charger. It seemed to look as if it was charging; well for 5 minutes, then it went dead! So in goes old battery which lasted me until 1am this morning when it died again!

So arrived at work and called Vodafone, said my circumstance that I need to be able to use a phone, and if its not charging then there must be something wrong. Down to my bad experience I asked if I could have a new handset (HTC Magic), for which the customer representitive quickly said no because your in contract. I then explained more what was happening, so I was given the option of a replacement phone (Storm), for which I agreed and then asked if this happens again, can I get a different handset. Lets see shall we, update coming tomorrow. Post your experiences with BlackBerry Storm!

Update

So the replacement came this morning, and the screen touchscreen would not move, or was really sluggish and then crashed. Went to Vodafone store at lunch and the assistant looked at it and had the same problem. Just about to call Vodafone and see what they can do! New phone please :)
